KDDi rolls out Toshiba Sportio W62T cellphone

ER: cool girl, not necessarily the coolest phone.. a runner's phone?

We caught a brief glimpse of Toshiba's Sportio W62T when KDDi announced its vast summer 2008 lineup of phones, but the Japanese carrier is just now giving the handset its proper due with an official launch. As the rather unfortunate name suggests, this one's intended to help you out in your various athletic endeavors, with it packing an accelerometer and built-in GPS to keep track of how many steps you take and how far you've gone, as well as how many calories you've burned. As if that wasn't enough, you'll also apparently be able to "compose music" by jogging along to special tracks. Otherwise, you can expect a 2.2-inch 240 x 320 display, a built-in 1seg TV tuner, a 2-megapixel camera, and built-in Bluetooth -- no word on a price just yet though. [Via Pocket-lint]

eee PC and Slingbox (instruction for installing SlingPlayer on eee PC)

has been searching for a way to Run SlingPlayer on the eeePC for sometime since Sling does not have Linux client (never announced one) and i still want to keep my eeePC Linux.. havent got much luck before now. thks to people at SlingCommunity there is a solution. I figure i will change it a bit to focus on the eee installation for less techie ppl
Running Wine over Linux I have to confess I had not been having much luck running Wine (Windows emulator on Linux) on the eee but this installer script works out fine:

http://www.slingcommunity.com/download/27234/Slingplayer-LINUX-US-1.03b/

with the newest version Wine these are the steps: go here: http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb with Firefox on the eee Open terminal or console run this (copy and paste it in) sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/etch.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list then this sudo apt-get update then this
sudo apt-get install wine it will take 3-5 min to download and install the newest version of Wine Install the SlingPlayer 1. Download this zip file if not already done so

http://www.slingcommunity.com/download/27234/Slingplayer-LINUX-US-1.03b/

2. extract the *.sh file from the archive

3. ensure the file has executable permission (right click go to properties, select permissions and tick the can execute checkbox)

4. open a terminal ... (shortcut is normally ctrl+t - but you should be able to find it in your applications shortcut menu)

5. drag the extracted *.sh file into the terminal

6.) hit enter and follow the onscreen instructions to install. (it will take 3-5 min to download)

run the SlingPlayer application

works well over wireless and also full screen, i'd set the Slingplayer Optimization setting to Low CPU works fine, Sync voice and lip well now, the final step is to create a icon to launch the SlingPlayer easily Voila!!
Lifestyle App Bringing Sling to the eeePC will greatly enhance the eeePC usage on the road the 7" screen is obviously much better than my Nokia N95 and the CPU/RAM of the eeePC handles it well. its a perfect fit!   hope u find this useful, the credit of the install script goes to Member AvatarandyBBB at slingcommunity, way to go! Yahoo One Connect, Flock and Mobile Friend App

See your friends in a whole new light.twitterrific_icon Yahoo OneConnect is truly a very interesting app with interesting GUI the concept is to track all your friends' going on's anytime, anywhere it is at least 6-9 months away, and with Yahoo's current status, it is future is questionable here are some of my thoughts basing on the dump screen of the product and some researches on the "Friend's list" this can be the basis for a great mobile app NOT just IM even though the GUI of the interface looks like a Instant messenger, its is way beyond a IM. the iPhone/iChat type GUI is very nice for communication but its essentially a friend's list communication can be through different apps:

  • IM
  • post of facebook etc
  • email
  • sms
Stay in touch with anyone, any way you want. Active Addressbook the friends-list is the core of the app the addresbook app has always been the most used app on a phone now with the API to most phones fully open, these can be captured and used in the Friend App. also facebook, gmail and other online web 2.0 apps allow access to the contact book to capture info. info can be "aggregated" into a super addressbook that is active with user activities The single best place to connect with your world. Twitter model expanded the Twitter model works here, where friend's going on is tracked and presented, she can be:
  • doing anything: through the label of her MSN messenger, or Facebook
  • or just did a Post on her Blog,
  • or is travelling in other parts of the world (through Facebook "where am i" app or Google Calendar)
    • what's the weather of his current city?
  • talking through IM
  • roaming with SMS contact
  • posted picts on flickr
  • posted video on Youtube
  • listening to "madonna" on her itune
Twitteriffic is a nice Mac based tool for Twitter, but it only integrate Twitter.. (i only have one friend in Twitter..          :-/ Browsing Media A lot of updates online are media specific:
  • Travel Blog
  • Car interest group
  • Gadget news..
Browsing image/snaps are easy to use to track info Flock's Friend GUI Flock is branded as a Social Community Brower. i have been trying Flock for the last month (beyond IE (dropped 9 months ago), Safari (never really used), and the trustworthy and xplatform Firefox (on Linux, Mac and Win) the only reason that i hadn't completely changed over to flock is that it does not support Foxmark which is SUPER important for me on multiple devices.. but this effiecient UI is really engaging more and more of my time: good work! The RSS aggregation is also good. Aggregation not Synchronization of Friend's going-on by putting all the going-on's in a sidebar, the app is very easy to use and track friends. it aggregate all my friends from:
  • Facebook
  • Flickr
  • YouTube
  • Twitter
if it can add friends that comment on my blog, blogger writer i am interested to track my IM friends, my SMS-able friends then it will be simply indispensible.. there is a lot of opportunity here!! worth consider investing more resource on to make it work
